After more than a year since I read HBP, I read it again. Mind you, I didn't read it before due to RL problems totally unrelated to the book or its quality. This week, though, I managed to finally re-read it!
And it's still one of my favorite HP books - I remember that, after reading it for the 1st time, I immediately jumped to this conclusion, only to stop and think "No, POA is my favorite HP book...or is it?" After some debate, I decided I had to test HBP against the most evil foe of all - time. POA survived time, it's still a book I have very found memories of, and that when I think about it, I instantly feel compelled to read it. HBP...well, it's still a book I felt compelled to read all this year, and just having finished, I want to turn to the first page and re-read it yet again, so...so far, so good! :P
I do have my problems with it, though. But not as much as OotP. I remember when I re-read OotP, I dragged through the reading for, like, FOREVER, and although there are things I really love in the book - like the DA, McGonagall, the twins leaving Hogwarts, and all the descriptive details she gave us when we went to the Ministry of Magic - the book didn't have as energetic a pace as the others. I dunno...it simply...drags for far too long in far uninsteresting things.
But with HBP..wow! Not even Dumbledore's death makes me hate it, because first, I was expecting this since he said that "death is nothing but the next great adventure"not to mention that he is HP's Obi-Wan Kenobi, and second, it was superbly done! The setting up for it, the death itself, and afterwards - dramastically different from Sirius' death - another of the main reasons I don't like OotP. Sirius's death in itself made me mad *cofRSshippercof* but the way it happened...GAH! *pulls hair out*
I LOVE Dumbledore's lessons, Mature!Harry - ANGST!HARRY did wear me a lot in OotP, and I'm beginning to think I should compare the two books XD - was AWESOME! This was essentially a HARRY book - I know they are all Harry's books, but this one...it felt stronger in that point to me somehow. And the HPB/Snape storyline and everything related, it's so intriguing and plot-developing and angsty and FITTING for his character! And I'm NOT a Snape fan! XD Even Bill's being attacked by Fenrir didn't made me mad - because that shows how BRAVE he is, and because that showed MOLLY and the rest of the Weasleys that Fleur really does LOVE Bill *loves B/F like WHOA!* Even though I still prefer AtE!Fleur over Book!Fleur!
I also LOVED - obviously - H/G and all the setup for it - the monster inside Harry claiming for Dean's blood and for Ginny's, er, kisses was funny and fitting. Even the R/H didn't disappoint me as much this time. True, when I first read the book, I was mad at JKR for presenting us with a delicious dessert with a cherry on top of it - "they are going to Slughorn's party together, YAY!" - only to have it snatched from us by Lav-Lav. But as much as Won-Won and Lav-Lav storyline annoy me, they don't annoy me as much as they did the first time, and the little R/H tidbits in the book sure make up for it! Especially, but not only, the "I love you, Hermione." Besides, JKR only wanted to give us a little bit more UST before R/H FINALLY being together in book 7not to mention another anvil-sized clue that was probably placed there so the H/H shippers could brace themselves for R/H being canon - and I'm not saying that to rub it in, I just think JKR was thoughtful of their feelings!
The only bit I reaaaally didn't like was the OUT OF NOWHERE Remus/Tonks. Never mind that I'm a R/S shipper, that Remus is too old, too poor, too dangerousand too gay for her, or that is WAY too rebel and much of a teenager for him, IT CAME OUT OF NOWHERE! Yes, I still think that, even after one year and after reading the book KNOWING what would happen.
Anyway, I *actually* wanted to make a post about what I *think* we will find in book 7, but I got carried away. Obviously. And quite expectedly! :P XD
So, about book 7. Hogwarts will not stay open - they almost closed it because of the Chamber of Secrets, with Dumbledore dead, they are bound to close it. Harry, Ron and Hermione will set out in search of the remaining Horcruxes, and THAT's what I was worried about at the end of book 6. Never mind that Harry doesn't know what is one of the Horcruxes - something of Ravenclaw's or Gryffindor's - or that he doesn't know WHERE they are - a huge problem to solve in itself. Remember what Dumbledore had to do in the cave to recover the fake Horcrux? I'm not talking about the potion drinking. I'm talking about those whispered incantations Harry wasn't familiar with, or how Dumbledore could *feel* the magic surrounding them, and even recognize certain parts of it and how to procede - offer blood to open the door on the wall, where and how to find the boat, how to react against the Inferi, and to know that he had to drink the potion. Harry is an expert wand-duelist, but he lacks all that knowledge that Dumbledore has, and his subtetly.
My first reaction was that Harry's mission was doomed to fail, from the beginning. But then I remember Hermione. Her Ancient Runes and, more importantly, her ARITHMANCY lessons are BOUND to serve to something, right? Maybe they will help with obscure - or even new *cofAftertheEndcof* incantations and spells - and also to reveal hidden magic. It can only be it. She will help Harry with the hidden Horcruxes, and Ron - I keep getting more and more annoyed with how he is treated in the movies - will help estrategize against Voldemort in their final showdown.
But what about Ginny? I know I've read enough fics where she tells Harry to shut up about it, she is still his girlfriend and that she will come with them, or even worst, that she will stay behind and go to Hogwarts, but...I don't think that will be the case. First, Hogwarts won't open next year. Second, Ginny has enough will power, temper and courage to go to war no matter what Harry says. I can't see her simply staying at home, waiting. But in the end of book 6, when Harry is about to broke up with her, JKR writes (bold mine):
She met Harry's gaze with the same hard, blazing look that he had seen when she had hugged him after winning the Quidditch Cup in his absence, and he knew that at that moment they understood each other perfectly, and that when he told her what he was going to do now, she would not say "Be careful", or "Don't do it", but accept his decision, because she would not have expected anything less of him. And so he steeled himself to say what he had known he must say ever since Dumbledore had died.
"Ginny, listen ..." he said very quietly, as the buzz of conversation grew louder around them and people began to get to their feet. "I can't be involved with you any more. We've got to stop seeing each other. We can't be together."
She said, with an oddly twisted smile, "It's for some stupid, noble reason, isn't it?"
"It's been like ... like something out of someone else's life, these last few weeks with you," said Harry. "But I can't ... we can't ... I've got things to do alone now."
She did not cry, she simply looked at him.
"Voldemort uses people his enemies are close to. He's already used you as bait once, and that was just because you're my best friend's sister. Think how much danger you'll be in if we keep this up. He'll know, he'll find out. He'll try and get to me through you."
"What if I don't care?" said Ginny fiercely.
"I care," said Harry. "How do you think I'd feel if this was your funeral ... and it was my fault ..."
She looked away from him, over the lake. "I never really gave up on you," she said. "Not really. I always hoped ... Hermione told me to get on with life, maybe go out with some other people, relax a bit around you, because I never used to be able to talk if you were in the room, remember? And she thought you might take a bit more notice if I was a bit more - myself."
"Smart girl, that Hermione," said Harry, trying to smile. "I just wish I'd asked you sooner. We could've had ages ... months ... years maybe ..."
"But you've been too busy saving the wizarding world," said Ginny, half-laughing. "Well ... I can't say I'm surprised. I knew this would happen in the end. I knew you wouldn't be happy unless you were hunting Voldemort. Maybe that's why I like you so much."
Ginny DOES understand Harry. Ginny doesn't care about putting herself at risk, but she cares too much about Harry to let him feel guilty if anything happens to her, and she knows that he cares so much about her and that he has a tendecy to feel guilt. She understands him so much, loves him so much for who he is, that she expected that to happen. So, my guess is that she will fight, but not alongside Harry, at least not until the final showdown, and perhaps not even then. There's a small possibility that she might be alongside him the whole way through, but I don't think so. Either way, they won't get back together at the beginning.
I won't even try to figure out when and if Ron and Hermione will finally be together, JKR again and again has tricked us into thinking they would be together and they didn't, I will just concentrate in my prayers that they will FINALLY be together. XD
As for Harry surviving at the end...I have very good arguments for both sides, and I can't decide which route will JKR take...I just hope she realizes how much pain Harry has been through - parents dead, abused by the Dursleys, by Malfoy and Snape, by the Ministry of Magic and by time and time again by the magical society - be it Hogwarts students of the society at large, Sirius dead, Dumbledore dead...COME ON, he deserves a little happiness in the end, JKR! Let him live! I hope she does, but I...really don't know if he will or not.
I know that everything I said is probably not new, but...I wanted to say that anyway. :)
And man, that was LONG. Essay long, LOL! I doubt anyone will read this, let alone comment!
Anyway, moving to lighter matters! :D
I saw the Spiderman trailer - OMFG! I in love with Sam Raimi right now, because he DIDN'T ruin the movie when he decided NOT TO SHOW VENOM! :D Link here!

First off, I love your idea of how book seven will go down. It'd be a nice way to bring things full-circle, by having Ron and Hermione contribute their respective skils and intellects to helping Harry make it to the final battle. ^^
Now, I wasn't a big fan of HBP when I read it. Didn't hate it or anything, but the abundance of romance kind of turned me off (the introduction of the Horcruxes, however, went a way to compensate for that, as did Fleur's moment in the infirmary ^^). That said, your review gave me something to think on in terms of one of my least favorite parts of HBP: Ginny and the Harry/Ginny ship. I didn't really like her and how uber she had become, but you brought up some very good points on the leaving scene with Harry that helps me go a little easier on her. Still can't find the love for the Chest Monster of Lust, but the previously tiresome goodbye scene is now a little sweeter. ^^
Nothing, however, has endeared me to Remus/Tonks so far, so there's at least one part of the book that I still dislike. :/
RE: Trailers
TUWHEHRPPTHWEPR!!! Those trailers were absolutely amazing. ^_____^ ::so cannot wait to see Spiderman 3 now:: They're quite ambitious, trying to fit all that plot into one movie (Venom suit, Sandman -- who is infinitely cooler than I thought he would be, ActivelyVengeful!Harry, Crazyfied!Peter, etc.). I'm sorta wondering how Gwen Stacy is going to fit into all this...I heard that she was appearing in this movie as Eddie Brock's girlfriend (it's bad that I have a mild crush on movie!EB, isn't it? It's bad that I'm already entertaining Eddie/Peter plot bunnies, isn't it? Yes, it is...), but beyond that...
The second Heroes trailer is great (wish I knew what music they were playing in the background) and I swear I sat there for a few minutes, just playing it back, trying to figure out who the person lying in the pool of blood was, or why Mohinder was tearfully banging against a car door, or who the Indian woman he was talking to was, or whether the girl Hiro is talking to has superpowers, or why Eden is so upset at the beginning of the trailer and so pensive later on, or why...
Yeeeeaaaah...this show has officially eaten my brain. -_-;

The romance part of the book I actually find amusing - except for the Lav-Lav bit. As for Ginny, I always liked her character, was a H/G shipper, and expected her to better show her personality in this way - mainly due to After the End. Let's see if I can help you with it as well.! ;)
Their love was hinted at since very early in the books, since we knew Ginny had a crush on Harry. And, lately, we had the end of OotP, with Ron saying he would rather have Ginny dating Harry, then Harry smelling a flowery scent in that love potion Slughorn made - only to later be associated with Ginny. Then his jealousy. And then...many sunny days. :) But I understand what you meant. :)

As for Heroes, yes, it has definitely eaten my brain, a long time ago! Hee. ^^ See, though I was never really in love with either, I also never really had anything against Ginny or Harry/Ginny prior to HBP. I think I would've just rather have had a little more build up on Harry's side and maybe had the relationship really blossom and grow in B7. But, hey, there's still one book left. It could turn out to be a Xavin/Karolina (from the comic Runaways) kind of ship -- didn't care much for how the ship got together, but once they were together for a while, they were awesome.
I liked Tonks a lot in OotP, so her big, dramatic, ridonkulous speech (complete with Remus-shaking) in the infirmary stung. >_< If these were comics, I could pray for a retcon, but alas...
Another reason to resent R/T...it took the attention away from the heartwarming Bill/Fleur moment. -_-;

Yeah, I heard that too, but when I went to look on Wikipedia, there was a mention of her being Eddie's girlfriend. Eddie + Peter + Mary-Jane + Gwen + Harry = Love Geometric Figure? Also heard the rumor that she may not necessarily die in the movie, so I don't know what to think. :/
The first link wasn't working, but the four clips were great! And hey, there's a bunch of Mohinder in the next epi! ::loves some Mohinder::

My expectations for book 7 are almost the same yours, but I really want to know what is in Snape's mind. If he is really bad, I hope Dumbledore knew that since he become a spy at Hogwarts. I'd love to discover that Dumbledore knew Snape's moves before him - as a huge Sirius fan, I really want Snape's death, in a very huge PAIN because he DESERVES it. After Dumbledore 's death I simple think that there is no possible forgiviness to his killer.

Second, you can write in portuguese if you want, but since you replied in English and reminded me of a IMPORTANT thing I forgot to mention, I'm going to reply in English:
As much as Dumbledore says that he can makes mistakes and that, being the brilliant man that he was, when he makes mistakes they are HUGE, I don't think he made a mistake with Snape.
Halfway through the book, Hagrid let slip that Dumbledore and Snape had fought over something that Dumbledore wanted Snape to do, and he didn't want to. And then, when Snape killed Dumbledore, we see his face contorted with rage. Not to mention that Dumbledore was PLEDGING with Snape - the same Dumbledore that earlier in the books said that death is nothing but the next great adventure.
To me, Dumbledore knew since the beginning that Draco's mission was to kill himself - he actually said that when confronting Draco - and he knew about the Unbreakable Vow Snape had done. So, either Draco killed Dumbledor, or Snape killed Dumbledore, or nobody killed Dumbledore but Snape died because of the UV and Draco was killed by Voldemort. BUT is Snape killed Dumbledore...all doubts that he was a spy would be gone from Bellatrix's, the remaining DE's and Voldemort's mind...and they would not only still have a very reliable spy, but also one very close do Voldemort. So, Dumbledore decided that he would have to be sacrificed.
That would explain why Dumbledore and Snape fought - Snape *never* denied anything Dumbledore order him to do. When Dumbledore was pledging with Snape, was to be killed - and he probably would have died because of that potion anyway - and the rage in Snape's face was at what he had to do.
That's also why he was so fed up at Hary when he called Snape a coward - he just had to do the most difficult thing in his life, kill the man that not only forgiven his past mistakes, but also trusted him and gave him a place to be.
Incidentally, I do think his regret came when Lily and James were killed because he loved Lily. :)
And that was big as well. :)

I understand your point of view about Snape, and I do agree with you about almost everything you said, but, for me SNAPE IS BAD. He have a very hugh sense of justice, but prefer to be unfair with Harry , Remus, Sirius. He has a cauldron of bad feelings boiling inside, and, despite he killed Dumbledore probably in his command, I don't think he had any remorse about Harry's parents death.
His motion is obscure for me, but I don't think it's impossible he was in love for Lilly, actually, but probably he was never not nearly loved for her, even JK said that he was loved at once in his life (probably by his mother).
And I think it's nice to reply in english in your LJ because it's a discussion that others thath don't read in portuguese can see my point of view, even my english is not too god as yours, of course :).

I also think that part of the reason he is mean to Harry is because he really doesn't believe that Harry should be treated as a special boy, he mistreats him to make him more down-to-earth, to MAKE him a better potion-maker/occlumens/etc - he probably was brought up that way by his mother and father, and thinks that's the right way to go.
And to me, his motion is not as obscure - he does everything that are better to HIM, no matter if it's bad or good for everybody else. Again, selfish.
I know you can related that to real life people, maybe it will make you understand better! ;)
And I never thought I would say this, but I need a Snape icon for this discussion! XD
