So, today we spent the afternoon at Jess' house, watching the very first episodes from a handful of tv series we all want to watch/have watched and want to convert the others into liking said series. It was great fun, even if part of it was when people made fun of me - :P

I will put my thoughts on the tv shows we watched here, in the order we watched the shows:

Prison Break I *think* I commented this here before - [livejournal.com profile] dabih and [livejournal.com profile] rjann are crazy about it, and I watched the very first episode a couple of weeks ago, and today I watched it again. It has my curiosity peaked, and I want to watch the rest of season 1, but it's not a priority right now - but it's definitely in my "to watch" list!

House OMG...Like, OMG! The series had 80% of me when I learned that House is an infectious disease specialist - my aspiring specialty - 30% with all the fun I had trying to figure out what the patient had, and then another 50% when his "caring" personality came through - we not only have really funny moments with that, but we also have some serious heart to heart moments, with confrontations and revelations! Yes, I realize that adds up to more than 100%, but there you go! That's how much I liked the show! ;) So much I'm dying to get my hands on the rest of seasons 1 and 2 in time for the beginning of season 3 - which is in THREE days! - so, I should get started! ;)

Bones I had watched the 5th episode a while ago, and now I watched the 1st one. The citations are funny, and even the concept of the show, but it feels like a X-files/CSI crossover to me - I know, I know, I watched neither of these shows - and it didn't left me hanging in there for more. Would probably watch it if I catch an episode on the tv, but won't go out of my way to watch it.

Grey's Anatomy Got my interest somewhat - definitely not as much as House, though. It's on my "to watch" list, along with Prison Break, but it's not a priority right now

Firefly I don't know if it was all the hyper over it on my f-list - especially when the movie came out - but...It didn't thrill me. At all. I should probably give it a try again, and watch a couple more episodes, but...*sigh* Farscape and BSG are MUCH better! *runs and hides* ;)

Obviously, I tried to put BSG into that list, but didn't succeed. But that's not a problem, because [livejournal.com profile] priwskywalker told me she had finally caved in, started to watch BSG this week, and REALLY LIKED IT! YAY! *HAPPY SNOOPY DANCE*

With Priw, I have managed to get four people to watch it - [livejournal.com profile] mariana_aroeira, [livejournal.com profile] hgranado, and [livejournal.com profile] ricardosolo are the other three - and I think only Ricardo isn't excited about it! ;) YAY!

You can't really watch Firefly with the sci-fi mindset so to speak. It's more a plotty character-driven show that happens to take place in space. And I'd advice you to watch a couple of more episodes into it. If it isn't shiny to you by then, then you probably aren't going to get hooked.

Yeah, I know, I'll watch more episodes - eventually - but at first it didn't impress me much. I liked Jayne though - he is funny!

Bones gets better--a *lot* better--as the series progresses. The early eps are pretty shaky, but the show is strongest on characterization and ensemble interactions rather than on the forensics. You might want to give it another try someday, if you have time. :-)

Farscape and BSG are MUCH better!

That's because you're not supposed to compare them! But this is not the point. Like the other commenter said, looking at Firefly from a sci-fi mindset might not work. It's a *Western*. Only with Joss' particular blend of heroes. Which means people talking funny.

[Though if you ask me, I do think FS is better than Firefly. But Firefly will always be is better than BSG for me, if only because Ron Moore can't write character arcs for shit, and Joss *only* writes that. And I live for character development. Plot? What's that? *g*].

Now, just to be sure -- you did watch "Serenity", right [and not "The Train Job"]? And it was a 2-hour pilot? Because the edited version is seriously lacking.

Er, no. You see, I had all the episodes with their names, and went to tv.com to see which was the first one - and the first one there, the first one aired, was The Train Job, and Serenity was the 11th, or 12th - I don't remember - plus, I got confused with the fact that the movie is also called Serenity.

I think I need a chaperone to watch Firefly, LOL! XD

OH NO! You saw the wrong episode! See, "Serenity" is the first episode. Only FOX is COMPLETELY STUPID and thought it shouldn't be the pilot for whatever reason [STUPID!], so they aired "The Train Job" instead. And IS the worst FF episode. GAH! NO!

You need to see it in the RIGHT other, which is the one on the DVDs:

1. Serenity Part 1
2. Serenity Part 2
3. The Train Job
4. Bushwhacked
5. Shindig
6. Safe
7. Our Mrs. Reynolds
8. Jaynestown
9. Out of Gas [best.episode.EVER!]
10. Ariel
11. War Stories
12. Trash
13. The Message
14. Heart of Gold
15. Objects in Space

Out of Gas

Quick note: Out of Gas is not only FF's BEST.EVER.EPISODE, it's also one of the best episodes for any TV show ever in history. ;)

It seems you have watched the 'wrong' pilot... Tissa has given you all the tips and hints.
I am sure you will enjoy it.

BTW, I am also curious to know when you are going to watch Star Trek! Because, hey, it is good. ;p

I'm more of a SW person, but Ricardo only watched BSG with the promise that I would watch ST, so, I have to watch one or two ST movies/tv episodes now...eventually.

I'm totally in love with House. Not in a very romantic king of way, but I am. Basically because he's mean - and he likes it (and we love it!). It's just so...cool!

I guess it's just because he has no problem saying what we all have problems dealing with: truth!

From: [identity profile] therealmarajade.livejournal.com

Yeah, he is a gifted person for that, but I got the impression - mind you, I only saw one episode - that he has problems HEARING the truth...

Can't wait to watch the rest of it!! :D
