I'm worried - I'm starting to get giddy over Superman Returns and I don't want to! I want to think it's going to be the worst movie of all time, so, when I do watch it, I will think it's great! But I already saw the worst movie of all time today - ok, not THE worst, the worst should be the last one, but it was bad. Very bad.

Ok, before I confuse you anymore, let's start from the beginning, for that is a good way to start...ok, from what fandom did I rip this off? LOTR? Nevermind. Even though I bought the Superman Movies DVD box when it came out, at the time I only watched the first movie - and yes, there's a reason why I'm pointing that out.

This week, since I had the time, I decided to watch the following movies. I had rewatched the first one last week with [livejournal.com profile] rjann and today, I watched the second and third movies. But in between those, I came online quickly while the living room was being cleaned, and saw a recently debuted webpage, with an astonishing and exciting video with recollections of all Superman incarnations - TV series, movies, animated series.

If you are a Superman fan, go here! I would pester [livejournal.com profile] priwskywalker to watch it, but I already did and she already saw it! ;) Even if you are not a fan, GO! Link stolen from [livejournal.com profile] louisemcgregor, btw! ;)

Anyway, after watching that - once you watch it, you will understand why I'm so ecstatic - I proceeded to watch the rest of the movies.

And man, Superman III? $ucks. It really does. It's hard for me, as a Superman fan, to say that, but it does! And you know what's kinda funny - except it's not? I watched all the Superman movies as a kid, and didn't watch the last two for many years - our local TV only replayed Superman II - which I love and made a point to watch every time they played when I had nothing else to do. But not the last two Superman movies. And No. III is so bad that I thought it was Superman IV! XD

Ok, I know I confused you know, but let me explain. Everyone knows that Superman IV is the worst movie EVER - even Warner knows that, so, when they released the DVD box, they left the fourth movie out of it. But since I hadn't watched those movies in so long, I always though of the one with Richard Pryor to be the last one, not the third one! Yeah, I know, that was an useless piece of informationg due to my vague memory, but I think it's kinda funny and I wanted to share so you could laugh with me.

I only remembered two or three scenes from that movie - Richard Pryor on the computer, Superman meeting with that blond girl on the Statue of Liberty, and the top of the building covered in snow - and the fact that they substituted an unknown compound of kryptonite with tar(sp?). All in all, bad. But it's not the 4th! It's the 3rd!! And it's BAD ALREADY! GAH!

You want to know the bad things? I can enumerate them to you - not that you guys need, of course, but here it goes:

1. NO LOIS! She was in two scenes. TWO SCENES!
2. Clark being infatuated with Lana Lang and forgetting about Lois. Only I can't be mad at her, because she is, you know, Mrs. Kent from Smallville! AND she is not as annoying as Kristin Kreuk - she is a good actress. AND it's not her fault that Clark is acting this way - it's not Christopher Reeve's fault too, it's the writers and director's fault. She is replacing the gap left by NO LOIS! I still can't cope with that!
3. Superman sleeping with another woman that is not Lois?!? WTF? Yes, I know he is "Dark Superman" but it annoys the hell out of me!
4. No Lex Luthor. *sigh* What can I do? I like the bald guy - gotta love to hate him! ;)

I have to admit there were a few nice things there:

1. Lois being jealous of Clark and Lana. :)
2. The fight between Clark and Dark Superman. Weird, too "real" to be just a mental battle of his own - I guess they didn't have another way to do it - but I kinda liked it! ;)
3. Smallville's Mrs. Kent as Lana Lang. Yes, this is not inherent to the movie, and actually it works the other way around - we have Superman III's Lana Lang as Mrs. Kent - but I liked it. ;P

Now, I'm afraid to watch Superman IV again. Actually I think I saw it only once, if at all, but I'm afraid.

Nevertheless, I'm getting giddy over Superman Returns. Because of that silly video from the new website and, of course, because Superman and Superman II are great movies!

Gotta love Christopher Reeves and the clumsy Clark Kent, Superman spinning Earth on its axis to save Lois, Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, Margot Kidder as Lois Lane - I love her! The character and the actress! Come on, Lois threw herself on the Niagara Falls to prove that Clark was Superman - she is cunning, she had guts, she is fierce, baby!

Which reminds me - Kate Bosworth? She looks like a wimp - she is too soft. She may be a good actress, but she doesn't convince me as Lois, let's see when the movie comes out. Brandon Routh, on the other hand, looks EXACTLY like Christopher Reeves, and I believe he is a good actor to have been cast!

Actually, since we are twenty years away from the first Superman movie, and things today are a bit different, he might make even a better Superman - not that I'm doubting Christopher Reeves' acting ability, but the movies were slower back then - not so many explosions and action-packed sequences as nowadays - and the writers/director made Clark almost look like an idiot, so clumsy and "clueless" he was.

Want me to prove how big is that difference? Just look at the scene when Lois and Clark sleep together for the first and only time! They didn't show any action, they showed them going to bed and then asleep in each other arms - I find this more romantic and fitting to them - I love the romance on Superman II, I LOVE LOIS AND CLARK! - but today the movie market wants to show the sex scenes, and the naked actors, and stuff - which is not necessarily good. They gotta make a better Clark - not be as clumsy or "clueless" as he was, but instead smarter. ;)

Man, that was as long as an essay, wasn't it? Of course, not as well thought-out and written as such! ;) But hey, I have a crazy mind, and sometimes that shows on paper! ;)

Oh, well, in the end of the day, when I look at my desktop and see the Superman symbol I just put on it as a wallpaper, I know there is no hope for me - I am a Superman Fan Freak! XD

ETA: To clarify things, and to spare those of you who don't want to read such a freaking long entry - everyone in my flist XD - the worst movie of all time that I saw today was Superman III.

I can't read all of this right now but:

let's start from the beginning, for that is a good way to start

Sounds like The Sound of Music to me...

From: [identity profile] therealmarajade.livejournal.com

Yeah, I guess so! XD

And since you can't read it all, a spotlight: I praise Margot Kidder and complain about Kate Bosworth! ;)

The trailer for Superman Returns is awesome. Made me really want to watch the movie, but I'm still keeping my expectations low.

I like Margot Kidder's Lois Lane, but she so... Weird :P I imagine Lois as a beautiful woman, and Margot lacks in that department. Best Lois is still Teri Hatcher for me.

I just don't think we can judge Kate Bosworth yet, because we haven't seen any of her scenes. She doesn't look like Lois to me, she's not a good actress, my expectations are reeeeeeally low when it comes to Lois, but: it's Bryan Singer, and it's Lois Lane. I'll wait and see. She might look soft, but Bryan Singer knows what he's doing. Even with the kid thing.

Oh, Teri Hatcher IS the perfect Lois Lane to me - and Dean Cain's Clark is great as well because he is not as clumsy as Christopher Reeve's. But I was comparing the movies, not the series! ;)

But yes, Margot Kidder isn't as pretty as Teri Hatcher - actually, she is not pretty, and Teri is gorgeous!

Oh, and you know what? Watching Superman II got me thinking...they are doing Superman Returns based on the first two Superman movies, right? What if Lois got pregnant at the Fortress of Solitude, but since Clark erased her memory, she doesn't know who his real father is? ;)

even Warner knows that, so, when they released the DVD box, they left the fourth movie out of it.

Actually, they had copyright issues. I think Superman IV was released in Brazil by a different distributor. So that's why we only got the box with 3 of the movies.

From: [identity profile] therealmarajade.livejournal.com

But I think in the US it was also only released with three movies...wasn't it?

Ok, now YOU´ve kept my hopes up! I´m doomed! =P

Deb, I´m so sorry I missed your birthday, but I rarely have time on internet that is not for work the last days.

Oh, just for the record: Teri Hatcher WAS the BEST Lois EVER!!!

From: [identity profile] therealmarajade.livejournal.com

Sorry, didn't want to do that! I'm dreading starting to like the film and hating it when I see it! XD

And yes, Teri was the BEST Lois ever, because she was though AND beautiful, but I like how Lois was portrayed by Margot, even though she is not as pretty.

*sigh* I guess now it's time for me to watch my Lois and Clark Season 1 and 2 DVDs! ;)
