Just a warning - Iron Man and Hulk casting spoilers ahead.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still more of a DC girl than a Marvel girl, but I do have to admit that Marvel is going about his superheroes team movie better than DC is.

Let's, for the purpose of this little essay, take this two team formations - both are just assumptions/suggestions made by me and not really canon-accurate:

Justice League: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Flash (and perhaps Ajax and/or Hawkgirl)

Avengers: Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor (wishful thinking: Spider-Man and/or Wolverine)

What is DC doing?

We had four Superman and four Batman movies in the 80s and 90s respectively. They had few qualities, but they also quite a few problems. Then, in the last few years, they decided to ressurect - or rather reinvent - this characters. We had Batman Begins which is an AWESOME Batman movie with a previously not so well know actor, Christian Bale, who had a lot of actor expertise. And we had Superman Returns, with Brandon Routh, who is hot but, frankly...not so good an actor, and unexperienced. *runs from the Brandon Fans Mob (TM)*

And now they want to do a Justice League movie with NEW actors in the roles of Superman and Batman, and with Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and the rest of them UNINTRODUCED, without previous movies dedicated solely to them and their storyline set up.

Now, what is Marvel doing?

We had three X-Men movies. The first two were TOTALLY AWESOME and were responsible for the trend of Marvel - and why not say also DC? - superhero movies made to be blockbusters every other year. Then we had the three Spider-Man movies, which were also awesome.

Ok, we had two Fantastic Four and one Daredevil, movies that were not that great, and an Elektra movie I'm not even going to count - let's cross it together and throw it in the trash with Catwoman, shall we? - but we had great Marvel movies. And Hulk 2003...well, it had Eric Bana as an eyecandy, and that was it.

But, BUT! Now we have an AWESOME Iron Man movie, and a new Hulk movie coming out. Iron Man featured Robert Downey Jr, who I always thought was a GREAT actor - I LOVED him in Chaplin! I know he took some wrong steps in his personal life but now he put that behind and just made the GREATEST COMEBACK EVER! AND we have a new Hulk movie coming out, with Edward Norton, another GREAT actor, with great acting abilities - LOVED him in American History X!

Two great actors, perhaps not Big Names - and therefore with not so large a cache - but with great acting abilities. OMG, just to imagine Robert and Edward acting in the SAME movie, in the SAME screen...AND we would have Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury! I SO WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE! XD

Also, Marvel intends to make movies for the other Avengers members before an Avenger movie, setting up each one's storyline.

So, I'm sure they are going to go the same way and choose nice GOOD actors to do Captain America and Thor - heh, I personally would like to see someone like Dennis Quaid as Captain America, but that's wishful thinking. And yes, he is a nice actor, I like him. :P

Man, the day this Avengers movie comes out... I might fall to the Marvel side of the Force! :P

Yeah, I know I rambled...but I just wanted to put that to the paper, so to speak.

On three unrelated notes:

3) In 15 minutes it's going to be Valentines Day here in Brazil, so...[livejournal.com profile] rjann I LOVE YOU! Let's see if I'm going to eat chocolate the day after tomorrow or not...Miss you, see you tomorrow! ;)
Yesterday I went with [livejournal.com profile] rjann to the movies to watch James Bond, and I actually enjoyed it! It wasn't as full of blatant lies and impossibilities as the usual Bond movie, and Craig did a good job with the character - mind you, I thought he was a pretty good spy and undercover, and actually did pull the ladies' man character quite well, but he still doesn't *look* like Bond to me. Too used to Pierce Brosnan for that, and I still prefer Sean Connery. I do have to admit he has a very well muscled and HOT body - sorry, [livejournal.com profile] rjann - but his face still looks a bit too hard and gruffy to me, and he has big ears - heh, like I could complain about that, but at least my hair covers mine! XD Great entertainment movie! :)

Speaking of 007, I found a rather interesting interview with Sean Bean at [livejournal.com profile] bean_daily regarding his past role of 006 and thought I should share this:

I love it. It's more fun to play the bad guy. (...) A bad guy has to have unpredictability. You have to be able to make the audience sympathize with your character without being cheesy. I like playing intelligent bad guys. They have to have an agenda. Plus, I do think there's something sexy about them. They're driven, passionate, edgy. It's quite seductive for a character to achieve all that.

*fans herself* Btw, just to say something that is blatantly obvious but nevertheless I'm compelled to say: Sean is WAY HOTTER than Craig. Face and body-wise! :) ;) XD

On a totally unrelated subject, I'm SOOOOO behind in reading [livejournal.com profile] 12days_of_clois daily fics! I feel bad about it! I've been so anxious over tomorrow's results, not to mention working and being so damn tired - I blame the heat for it, though - that I only read [livejournal.com profile] alphielj's fic! Shame on me! I need to catch up! And even MORE shame because I didn't start writing my own fic! *facepalms* I have it on my head, mostly, I just need to sit and type it down, but I sort of can't decide between two scenarios - and since [livejournal.com profile] htbthomas already wrote about a SR Christmas, I'm thinking of using another universe to write mine...I dunno. I think eventually I will go with SR - and I will write it before reading Barbara's fic - but I'm really not sure...

Arr! Ahoy, mateys! See what I've brought to you!

Superman Special DVD Box Set PICTURES!

The four Christopher Reeves Superman movies, SUPERMAN RETURNS, HUNDREDS of extra materials like commentaries, documentaries - Look, up in the sky! is one of them - and deleted scenes, RICHARD DONNER's SUPERMAN 2 CUT, and a BOX that is making me almost drool!

*starts saving money NOW!*
So, after watching Superman Returns five times with various friends from different fandoms and places - though I still think the session with all that Superman geeks from orkut cheering with me was the most fun, even though I only knew [livejournal.com profile] louisemcgregor from that bunch - it was time to watch Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest!

I watched it on Sunday, with [livejournal.com profile] rjann, [livejournal.com profile] dabih, [livejournal.com profile] nancy_downs, [livejournal.com profile] ricardosolo, [livejournal.com profile] nandaweasley, [livejournal.com profile] priwskywalker and her parents, Manoela Wood, Aline Carneiro and her boyfriend Celso. [livejournal.com profile] tecapessoa was supposed to watch it with us if we had gone to an earlier session - she couldn't go to the session we went to - but I did not know that! Oh, well, Teca, we did watch SR together last weekend, and we had hung out at saturday's night "Festa Julina"! ;)

We had a blast on saturday, btw! I like all typical foods from "Festa Julina", and we even had an arranged - as in not reharsed - typical dance called "quadrilha"! Too bad [livejournal.com profile] rjann didn't dance with me... :(

Anyway, I very much like the first POTC movie, but this one, althought overall not better than the first one, has it's moments. It's funny, it has lots of little things that tie it with the first move, Jack Sparrow is, well, CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow, Will and Elizabeth have matured, we have scruffy!Comodore, and the surprise at the end, well, it's worth the ticket. Best moment of the movie, actually! Both the ending and the soundtrack of this movie far surpass the first movie - but when looking at the big picture, the first one is still better.

I do hope POTC:DMC wins the Oscar for Best Score though! I don't think Superman Returns can run in that category because the main theme is not original, since it was used in the first Superman movie.

It was incredibly fun to spend the afternoon with my friends, especially [livejournal.com profile] nancy_downs, who had spent her last two years at SP and we hadn't had the time to catch up properly before this weekend, and Aline, whose heart and character are greater than mine.

And tomorrow I'm going to the movies for the sixth time to watch Superman Returns again, with [livejournal.com profile] mariana_aroeira and, maybe, [livejournal.com profile] patigwblack, who is still debating if she wants to watch it again with me and her "nova-melhor-amiga-mais-amiga-que-eu", Mari! XD
Yesterday we had a Superman Marathon here in my house! [livejournal.com profile] rjann, [livejournal.com profile] priwskywalker and [livejournal.com profile] louisemcgregor watched the original Superman - the Movie with Christopher Reeves and the cartoon movie World's Finest! It was great, I love that movie, Chris did a great job both with Super and Clark, and that movie is the reason why I love Superman in the first place - that and Superman II, because I LOVE romance! ;)

World's Finest I had never watched before - I haven't been following the cartoons - and it's great to see some Superman and Batman interaction. I really really REALLY wish Bryan will do the Superman and Batman movie he talked about in that MTV interview of his - well, if he does a nice job with SR, that is! ;)

We had fun yesterday, watching and talking about Super, about JLA, about comics books, and all around being geeks. Some highlights of the evening;

"I am Jor-El. I'm your father." Priw: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That's impossible!"
"So be it." Me: "Jedi!"
Priw: "OMG! They shoot like Stormtroppers!" Rafael: "I was thinking the SAME THING!"

At last but not least...ONE DAY AND COUNTING! XD
First, not because it's the most important thing that happened this weekend, but because everyone expects brazilians to express our feelings on the World Cup...like [livejournal.com profile] priwskywalker said, I knew that it was just a matter of Brazil facing a real team, and we would lose. Because, frankly, Brasil wasn't playing what it should have been playing. Parreira should have dumped all the old stars of the team and went with the young reserves, but...*sigh*

Second, another great weekend spent with friends!

Friday and Cars )

On saturday, I watched Brasil lose - and it was well deserved. But we had barbecue, friends, jokes, and fun all around!

Sunday )

Ok, now, I gotta go, it's getting late and I have to work tomorrow morning.

At last but not least...Superman Returns is not showing in our movie theaters - it only premieres on July the 14th here, and I'm LOSING MY MIND over it. And I shouldn't. I know it. X|

Yesterday I bought SET, a brazillian movie magazine, because this month their edition has a special report about Superman Returns. I have to say that it gave me some hope - but also dread because I don't want to have hight expectations about it for fear I will hate it. But it gave me hope nevertheless - after all, the scriptwriters of SR are the same scriptwriters who wrote X2 and THAT movie is marvellous.

Well, we'll have to wait and see. Anyway, this isn't the main reason I'm posting this.

I haven't written any fic in YEARS - quite literally. But all this excitement - and, in my case, worry - about Superman Returns gave me a plot bunny I couldn't resist.

So, I wrote it! :D

[livejournal.com profile] priwskywalker! [livejournal.com profile] louisemcgregor! WE HAVE TO BE THERE!

Thanks [livejournal.com profile] dabih for the heads-up!
Busy weekend - worked on saturday and sunday mornings, so, I started the week already tired!

I watched X3 on saturday, and let me say just one thing: I've always said that when Brian Singer left for Superman Returns, he had ruined two movies: both X3 and SR.

The first part of my assertion was correct - X3 was really really bad. Let's see if the second part is also right - I don't want to, but I'm afraid it will be.

I would write a loooooooong review about X3, but I'm really not in the mood right now. Perhaps later in the week.

As for SR...new and AMAZING trailer and official website updated.

At last but not least, an interview with Greg Pak about the BSG comic books that sums up exactly what the tv series is all about - at least to me.

It combines big science fiction ideas with compelling characters and an incredibly high stakes plot. It deals with thorny questions about power and paranoia and racial and sexual politics in a subtle and dramatically compelling way. It's brilliantly written, shot, edited, scored, and acted. And the Cylons are pretty darn cool. - Greg Pak

Smallville Season Finale )

DH 2.22 )

Ah, I couldn't resist! Had to put up this new Kara/Lee layout! Cortesy of [livejournal.com profile] space_graphics!

Btw, one last quick note before I go! After watching episodes Pegasus and Ressurection Ship parts 1&2, [livejournal.com profile] rjann is as excited over BSG as I am! XD
LJ seems to be acting up today...*sigh*

Saw two movie trailers today, from movies I'm waiting for.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Johnny Deep and Keira Knightley have some really cool scenes in this action and special effects-packed trailer. But we have very few scenes with Orlando Bloom. I wonder if that's because his character, despite being a pirate's son, never wanted to be a pirate, while on the other hand Keira's always wanted to be one. Her scene killing two "sea pirates" with two swords? Looks promising. I have to say I'm worried about this movie because it's a sequel, and it was filmed together with the third of the franchising, but from all the movies I can't wait to see that are about to premiere and that I'm worried about - and I think I'm worried about all of them - this one is the one that worries me the least.

Superman: Returns I posted about this in a reply to [livejournal.com profile] louisemcgregor's post, but I'm reposting here. Yes, the trailer is AWESOME, the airplane scene with Super trying to catch the plane but ripping of its wing was OMG!PERFECT!, and all Super's flying scenes were cool. Clark breaking the glass covering Lois, Jason and Richard's photograph is a great scene too - as well as the last one, with the famous lines "It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's..." *Clark enters the room*

Kevin Spacey is disturbingly similar to Gene Hackman! XD And I mean that in a good way! He grasped Gene's interpration spot on, except for one bit - at least I hope! I don't think he will play him like a clown, like Gene did, but rather like a psycopath, which I think is more fitting.

But two things I can't cope with in the trailer. Lois and the kid.

I still don't like Bosworth as Lois. Ok, she said something fitting for Lois, when she said she didn't need a savior. But she didn't say like Lois would say - her entonation, her voice, her body language, all wrong IMHO. Well, I know I will only be able to really judge her when I actually see the movie - right, Priw? - but...she just doesn't feel right.

And the kid IS Clark's. Period. Either that, or Brian Singer is a dead man. XD

I actually have a theory about that - Lois was pregnant when Clark erased her memory at the end of Superman 2. When Superman left, she started dating Richard, and when she found out she was pregnant, having no recollection of sleeping with Clark because he eraser her memory, she thought the baby was Richard's! XD And when Jason - it's the kid's name, isn't it? - does something, in the very end of the movie, like flying, she will remember all of it! And probably smack Clark on the face - not that THAT will do any harm to him physically, but perhaps it will hurt his pride! XD

I really want to trust Brian Singer blindly, he did great movies until now, but...it's Superman! *is afraid*

Anyway, is it June yet? :)

I'm worried - I'm starting to get giddy over Superman Returns and I don't want to! I want to think it's going to be the worst movie of all time, so, when I do watch it, I will think it's great! But I already saw the worst movie of all time today - ok, not THE worst, the worst should be the last one, but it was bad. Very bad.

Ok, before I confuse you anymore, let's start from the beginning, for that is a good way to start...ok, from what fandom did I rip this off? LOTR? Nevermind. Even though I bought the Superman Movies DVD box when it came out, at the time I only watched the first movie - and yes, there's a reason why I'm pointing that out.

This week, since I had the time, I decided to watch the following movies. I had rewatched the first one last week with [livejournal.com profile] rjann and today, I watched the second and third movies. But in between those, I came online quickly while the living room was being cleaned, and saw a recently debuted webpage, with an astonishing and exciting video with recollections of all Superman incarnations - TV series, movies, animated series.

If you are a Superman fan, go here! I would pester [livejournal.com profile] priwskywalker to watch it, but I already did and she already saw it! ;) Even if you are not a fan, GO! Link stolen from [livejournal.com profile] louisemcgregor, btw! ;)

Anyway, after watching that - once you watch it, you will understand why I'm so ecstatic - I proceeded to watch the rest of the movies.

And man, Superman III? LONG rambling about Superman III )

Nevertheless, I'm getting giddy over Superman Returns. Because of that silly video from the new website and, of course, because Superman and Superman II are great movies!

And because I couldn't resist, even more rambling - Superman I and II in comparison to what I expect from Superman Returns )

Oh, well, in the end of the day, when I look at my desktop and see the Superman symbol I just put on it as a wallpaper, I know there is no hope for me - I am a Superman Fan Freak! XD

ETA: To clarify things, and to spare those of you who don't want to read such a freaking long entry - everyone in my flist XD - the worst movie of all time that I saw today was Superman III.

I have to say that, even though there are quite a few - actually, more than a few - thrilling scenes, I was a bit worried about some characters.

Spoilers under cut )

If you haven't watched it, you can watch it over here.

Why do I have this nagging feeling, AGAIN, that I will hate X3 and Superman Returns? WHY did Brian Singer had to leave X-Men to rotten in the hands of Brett Ratner just to go and ruin Superman as well? *sigh*
